17. Add Video to a Product

fmEditProductVideo

This article describes how to add product videos via Store Manager for Magento.

The possibility to add product videos is available in Magento 2.x versions. Magento 1 doesn't support this option.

To add a video, launch Store Manager for Magento, open Catalog > Categories&Products, and select the Image Gallery tab in the lower grid. There you'll see the Add Video button:

For the store(s) using Magento 1.x, the Add Video option will be grayed out (inactive):

After you open the form to load a product video, you will see the notification to enter YouTube API Key. This can be done from the Google account. Visit this page to get more details on getting an API key based on your Google credentials.

In order to activate a key and proceed with the video assigning, use the link shown on the illustration below:

Add video type without API

It should lead to the Admin Panel of your store, i.e. Dashboard-> Stores-> Configuration->Catalog choose the same-named sector and find the Product Video area.

Enter an API key in the corresponding field and press the [Save Config] button to keep this entry.

We recommend you to [Flush Magento Cache] from the back-end office after the current action.

Once a key is accepted, the form in Store Manager will be updated (see an illustration below).

As an exception, if you place your video on Vimeo, an API key will be unnecessary, because its format is acceptable. You should only specify an URL path to it.

Now, you can insert an URL path to the video in the reelvant field.

Insert video URL

Note: To add a video from YouTube, use its full URL but not a shortened URL that you get by pressing the Share button on YouTube.

Example:

Full URL (works for Magento): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoyE6v8_11E

Shortened URL (won't work for Magento): https://youtu.be/VoyE6v8_11E

Also, you have to fill in the rest of the fields:

  • "Title" is a mandatory field. Indicate the name of the video record there.

  • "Description" - indicate some information about the attached video.

  • "Preview image" - assign an illustration to the product, preview it in the corresponding area.

Add Preview image role

< - Select key positions to display a picture on the store’s front-end: "Base", "Small", "Thumbnail", "Swatch"

Hide from Product Page option

< - Make the image visible on the Product page.

If you have installed the version of a flash player that supports this type of video records, you will be able to preview it in the right section of the form:

To see whether a video you added was attached to a relevant product, click the [OK] button in the "Edit" form. This enables the sign in the "Media Gallery" tab, which indicates the added video.

There are two sub-tabs on the right pane of the current tab:

  • "Image Preview" shows an illustration that has been assigned to the record

  • "Video Preview". There is the possibility to start video recovering directly from the lower product's grid.

The additional information, which was indicated in the "Edit Video" form, is available under the record, as well.
