1. Import Images

It is strongly recommended that a validated database backup be created, before any
 potentially unsafe, mass operations, are performed!

Store Manager for Magento optionally allows for the uploading  of Images of your products, during  the products Import process. To upload images, while Importing, perform the following procedures:

1. First, make sure that you have set up your FTP connection correctly. To verify this, go to: 'Preferences -> FTP', or presss the 'F12' shortcut key.

If you need help configuring your FTP connection, click here.

2. Prepare a .csv file for Import. Make sure that it contains all required columns (such as Product ID, Product Model (SKU), etc.), along with a column containing valid file references to the image(s) for each product. For more details, click here.

Images may be specified within the .csv file in a few different formats:
  • Image names - All images should be located on your local PC, in one folder, (do not use subfolders). For example: imagename1.jpg
  • Image URLs - You may also reference external files (not on your local pc.), ie... External URL links offered by your supplier (be sure to include the http://). These will typically be supplied in the format:: http://yoursupplier.com/images/imagename1.jpg
If multiple images are to be imported into an image gallery, for one product sku, specify all of the images within one field, using the comma (,) as a delimiting separator.
  • In the case of image names, use the following format: imagename1.jpg, imagename2.jpg, imagename3.jpg
  • If you have been given External URLs by your supplier, format them in this manner: http://yoursupplier.com/images/imagename1.jpg, http://yoursupplier.com/images/imagename2.jpg, http://yoursupplier.com/images/imagename3.jpg,
Be sure to validate that all images are the correct size, and that the names are correct, for all products.

You may now proceed with the import. Detailed procedures and import steps may be found in the Product Import Instructions. Pay special attention to be sure that the 'Import Images' option in the 'Select Delimiters and Additional Settings' step of the import process is selected (checked):

Select fields Delimiters

The following options are available for selection:
  • Clear Image Gallery - allows you to clear the current Image Gallery for the Products that you are updating. (!)
  • Delete images from FTP - If this option is checked, the Product Images will be erased from your FTP directory, during the Import process.
  • Generate new file name and upload as new image, if image with current name already exists - a new image file will be created, instead of replacing the existing one, if the uploading file name already exists in the destination directory.
  • Local directory with images - Specify the local directory containing the images that you would like to import (use only if you have validated image names in your .csv file, and the images exist in a designated folder on your local PC.
If your media files have different format you can specify the desired size of images in the "Fields Delimiters and Additional Settings" step of import process.
Check the 'Import images' field and find the three types of images which you can resize below:

You can choose one of them to specify the custom size and two others will be resized automatically.

Images Resize Rules

As default your images are imported without changes (resizing), but if you press browse button you will be able to set your own settings, i.e. image width and height in pixels.

Resize Rule Browse button

Press 'Add' button and enter resize rule name in the first column of the appropriate form.

Add rule button

The next columns allows to enter the following data:

- width (Desired Width) - if you specify only the image width, picture will change proportionally to the specified size;

-height (Desired Height) - if you specify both - the width and height - the image size will be changed accurately to these proportions;

Additionally, you have to mark the appropriate field of increasing or decreasing image size.

- If the image has to reduce its size - check the first column;

Decrease size column

- If the picture has to be increased  to desired size - mark the second one.

Increase size column

To save your entry press 'Apply rule' button  Apply rule button .

You can delete selected resize rule by clicking on the appropriate option in the top menu Remove resize rule  .
You have a possibility also to abolish all previous entries if you press  the corresponding button

Cancel rule button
in 'Image Resize Rule' form.

Note that it is recommended to make resize with Magento template, as manual resize rule will blur images slightly.

4. Assign the images in the columns in your .csv file, to their corresponding database fields. To do so, simply select the Product Image field in the left pane (Database Fields), and then click the correct column in the right pane (.csv File Columns). You may also type the number of the .csv column directly into its corresponding field. For example (below), in the 'Fields' column of the .csv file , the field 'Media Gallery Label' is assigned to the 36th csv col database field ('Media Gallery').

5. Complete import. For details and information about other options, please check Product Import.

Once the import is finished, Store Manager will Upload your Images via FTP automatically, and you will be able to see the Images on their relevant product page. Be sure to validate the results, once the upload is complete.

Note: All images go into an ftp queue. Refer to 'Advanced -> FTP Tasks Queue'. Be patient, as the upload may take some time.
